Steve presented "Online processing of scalar implicatures in Chinese as revealed by event-related potentials." Kristi presented "An Electrophysiological Investigation of Constraints on Adult Second-Language Acquisition of Morphosyntactic Processing." Wendy presented "Training English learners of Spanish to perceive and produce intervocalic tap, stop, and trill".

Yuka Naito-Billen and Robert Fiorentino presented a talk titled "Tracking the Morpheme-level Route to Complex Word Recognition: A Cognitive Neuroscience Investigation", and Utako Minai presented a talk titled "The Acquisition and Use of Semantic Knowledge in Children: Studies on Child Universal Quantification" at Tokyo University, Tokyo, Japan, on June 8, 2010.


Ella Fund-Reznicek and Rebecca Hughey graduate with honors from the Department of Linguistics

Ella Fund-Reznicek and Rebecca Hughey graduated with Honors from the Department of Linguistics. Ella presented her undergraduate honors thesis project "Neural Responses to Chords During Music Processing: An EEG Study", and Rebecca presented her undergraduate honors project, "Interactions between Emotional Connotation and Negation in Word Processing" in the Department of Linguistics on May 12, 2010.


Yuka Naito-Billen awarded 2010 KU Summer Research Fellowship

Yuka Naito-Billen was awarded a 2010 KU Summer Research Fellowship to conduct her dissertation research, which includes EEG and psycholinguistic studies on the processing of Japanese sentences by native speakers and learners.


Stephen Politzer-Ahles awarded NSF EAPSI Grant

Stephen Politzer-Ahles was awarded an NSF East Asian and Pacific Summer Institutes (EAPSI) grant to conduct research this summer in the laboratory of Dr. Xiaolin Zhou at Beijing University. Steve will spend eight weeks in Beijing conducting an EEG experiment examining the nature and relative time course of syntactic and semantic computations in the processing of sentences in Chinese.


Robert Fiorentino and Alison Gabriele awarded NSF Grant

Robert Fiorentino and Alison Gabriele received an NSF grant for their collaborative project, "Examining development and ultimate attainment in second language processing: An ERP investigation."


Ella Fund-Reznicek and Jamie Bost present at the 2010 KU Undergraduate Research Symposium

Ella Fund-Reznicek and Jamie Bost presented their work at the 2010 Undergraduate Research Symposium (UGRS). Ella presented her project "Neural Responses to Chords During Music Processing: An EEG Study" and Jamie presented her project "The Effects of Word Category Frequency on the Resolution of Ambiguous Sentences." Ella was awarded an Outstanding Presentation Award at the UGRS banquet.

Lamar Hunt III received an Undergraduate Research Award for his EEG study on the processing of quantifiers, under the mentorship of Profs. Robert Fiorentino and Utako Minai.
